Jim Humphrey

Jim Humphrey has dedicated over 25 years to MTHS as a volunteer for multiple sports. He has spent decades running scoreboards for volleyball, softball, football, and girls track. There are very few individuals on Earth who have attended more Metamora sporting events than Jim.

Jim is already a member of the Eureka College Hall of Fame for his basketball prowess. A graduate of Centralia High School, he did not play high school basketball so that he could help out on the family farm. At Eureka, however, he was convinced to play during his final two college years. He led the Gateway Conference in scoring both seasons and was listed as a top 20 scorer in the nation by Sports Illustrated and The Sporting News.

After college, Jim spent 34 years in education, teaching 5th and 6th grades in the East Peoria District 86 school system. He married his sweetheart, Bernie, and raised Morgan, Margaret and Marnin, all proud graduates of MTHS. As of January 31, 2025, Jim and Bernie have been married for 60 years.

Jim has also been honored by the IHSA in 2006 as its Volunteer of the Year.
