2009 Football Team

The 2009 football team captured Metamora's third football state championship in school history and second in a three-year period. Pat Ryan's twentieth team scored over 40 points in all but two of its fourteen games, culminating with a 41-7 thumping of Geneseo in the Class 4A title game.

Two of Metamora's all-time greatest offensive players, Aaron Peters and Michael Fay, seemingly gained yards at will behind an imposing offensive line, as the Redbirds piled up 589 points on the season.

The trip through the 4A playoffs was Metamora's first foray outside of Class 5A since the IHSA expansion to 8 classes in 2001. Included in the journey was an all-time classic in the state semifinals, a 41-40 triumph over Rochester that ended with the Redbird defense denying a two-point conversion that would have won the game for the Rockets.

The 2009 football team continued a tradition of excellence at Metamora, becoming the seventh team to play in the state championship game in a 14-year period.
